Supporting students to develop and demonstrate a range of personal, key and employability skills through experiential learning and real life contexts.

The ASDAN curriculum gives students the opportunity to learn and explore life skills that they will need when leaving school. The ASDAN’s flexible, activity-based programmes are designed with the aim of developing key skills without the need for formal qualifications.
These include titles such as Personal Development Programme and Lifeskills Challenge. ASDAN’s regulated qualifications cater to different levels, from Entry 1 to level 2 qualification.
Enrichment
During students study of ASDAN at Beckfoot Thornton, there will be a range of opportunities available to enrich your subject knowledge outside of the classroom. This includes:
- Charity fundraising
- Cooking
- Public speaking
- Debate Club
- Real life experiences
Assessment
The ASDAN curriculum is split into different units and modules and depending on the course being delivered will depend on the assessments. In the personal development bronze, silver, gold the course work for all the modules is internally moderated and then all the work is sent for external moderation, different amounts of units will be completed at each level.
In the COPE, modules are completed in the different modules until the students become confident to complete a full module independently and these are the units that are sent to be moderated along with paperwork of how confident the student has felt throughout the course.
Careers
ASDAN offers students a head start in coping with life after leaving school. It builds their confidence to become independent individuals and apply for college courses and post-16 pathways.
It also provides students with an additional qualification when applying for their post-16 pathways.
