REW at Beckfoot Thornton

In Religious Education and Worldviews, we involve students in a structured exploration of important human questions.

Students will gain the ability to appreciate various cultures and societies through an understanding of diverse religious and non-religious beliefs and practices. They’ll develop their critical and analytical thinking skills regarding personal and controversial issues and build the confidence to form and express their own independent judgements.

The curriculum focuses on religious and non-religious worldviews and includes thematic units for discussing contemporary moral issues. We want our students to develop a curiosity about diverse cultures and worldviews, to prepare them to engage thoughtfully in a multicultural global society.

Enrichment

Students can take part in Culture Day, where they can develop a sense of identity and belonging, preparing them for life as citizens in a multicultural global society.

Book club often makes links with religious and moral issues which introduce students to different cultures and belief systems, fostering respect and understanding for diversity.

Assessment

Internal assessments take place throughout the year to monitor pupil progress and to further inform teaching and learning
